Ricardo Nascimento is a Brazilian-born multidisciplinary artist whose practice moves between painting, sculpture, mural work, scenic art and architectural design. Informed by Brazilian culture, the immigrant experience, and an enduring fascination with nature, science and the human condition, his work explores perception—how we see, categorize and ultimately understand one another and the world around us.
Working across figurative and abstract languages, Nascimento explores the distance between what we perceive and what is actually present. Gesture and movement are arrested in paint; anonymous faces invite encounters with people who might otherwise remain unseen or unapproached. Color, identity and visual ambiguity become ways of examining the assumptions we bring to an image before we have truly looked at it.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Nascimento grew up in the intense light and perpetual summer of the Brazilian tropics, developing an early fascination with places, cultures and ideas beyond his immediate surroundings. He studied Art and Architecture and has worked across theater, television, nonprofit arts, commercial art, architecture, music and radio.
